I packed my reportage drawing pad in my backpack, to cover how we can create better paths and places for outdoor life, at a conference in Denmark. Here are the drawings inspired by the day
How do we create the best framework for outdoor life
Drawing and text by Frits Ahlefeldt
Around 200 participants from municipalities, universities, organizations and the Danish Nature Agency and from a lot of associations and private organizers came together to share and gain new knowledge about recreational infrastructure in Denmark
I found a table and sketched during the day, and it turned into a few handfuls of drawn thoughts, that I have since worked on, colored, scanned and written texts for. And now the finished illustrations are ready here in both line and colored versions.
I hope my drawings from the day can help to inspire the work with paths and outdoor life to the benefit of both nature and us.
Di02161 Nature thirst
Our cities can feel like deserts, making some desperate to get out into nature, and others just diving further into pretty pictures of it on the screens
Di02160 Outdoor gear vs sustainability
When in nature we’ve gone from less is more, to doing less, with more
Di02159 Digital wayfinding apps – good or bad?
Making a good navigation and hiking app requires a lot, and it is seldom the quick fix to get people out walking some might think
Di02158 Connecting the trails
Paths gets much better if missing parts are added to close the gaps
Di02157 Between recovery and sustainability
Reasons for hiking are often divided into internal and external reasons: Some hike mostly to find their balance or to get better health. Others walk to create more balance in the world, avoid flying and lower their Co2 footprint. Both reasons are good motivation and can work together.
Di02156 The first step is the hardest
Hiking is in many ways a metaphor for our understanding of the rest of life, and this also applies to the fact that the first step is often the most difficult to take
Di02155 Motivation to head for nature
Five reasons people hike and get out into nature: To experience the landscape, find peace and quiet, get exercise, family time or/and meet people
Di02154 heart shaped trail island
Drawing of an island with walking paths between the different parts and a coastal path around the whole place
Di02153 Making places better together
When many people join hands to make paths and trails, the results gets better
Di02152 From cars, over public transport to walking
When more people walk, it is both good for the planet, our community and every one of us
Di02151 Outdoor life conference sketch
