Presentations and talks about walking by Frits Ahlefeldt

Hire me to present understandings and ideas about how we can create trails to a better future, based on my research and work with and other projects

For more than 20 years I have been sketching and reseaching ideas, concepts and understandings on how we can use hiking as a way to create thrive, better cities, help nature and also how we can use walking to make our communities more resilient to climate change.

Now here in 2019 I am starting to present my work about walking. I am using both my research and my own writings, ideas and drawings to weave stories of walking together. All to inspire and show the many different ways we can create a better future by walking together

My talk about walking can focus on different aspects

In my talks I focus on the connection between hiking and what is most relevant to the audience:

Livability is the new center of architecture and urban planning. And the best way to create good places, designers have realized, is to make them walkable . In this talk I explain why walking creates the best cities

Coastal trails

Benefits of coastal trails are many, both for locals, wildlife and visitors

In this talk my focus is on coastal trails and communities. We need a global network of coast paths to help against climate change. But also to secure our well-being and secure biodiversity. I explain why we need coast paths – and how to create a network of thriving coastal communities, by connecting them with coast trails

Biodiversity and walking

By walking we can connect and live in more sustainable ways helping biodiversity

Our planet is loosing biodiversity at an alarming rate and to reverse this we need to become the guardians of life on Earth- Walking can help us make this change to a very different mindset. Here I explain why

Storytelling and hiking

Walking and storytelling has a lot in common

Walking and the ways we understand reality and tell stories are close related, so close that our lives in many ways are “walks of life”. In this talk I explain the fascinating ways we create reality by talking and walking along storylines and paths of life. And I give examples of how cultures from around the world create stories, reality and trails by storytelling and walking

Innovation and walking

Sitting is not always working – innovators have using walking in many ways

Inventors, scientists and designers have used walking as a way to innovate for countless years. Brilliant philosophers and inventors from Einstein and Darwin, to Steve Jobs used walking to create new paths and to explore thoughts and venture into unknown terrain. In this presentation I go through who used it and how walking can spark new understandings and innovations.

Presentation of hiking in Denmark

Living in Denmark I have worked with hiking here in many ways and have followed many of the largest national and not so national trails and projects. I’ve learned a lot and in this talk I sketch up what hiking is in Denmark and how we can inspire many more walkers to head out on the paths and trails

Coast Trail Denmark

Walking along the coastline in Denmark is an old tradition I work to make more known

This is a project I am working on. A coastal trail around Denmark is in the making. Here I explain how a national coast trail can help both the local communities, the understanding of the coastline´and also boost, biodiversity, sustainability and thrive. Both for locals and visitors. Even more important it can be a strong defense against the sea level rise experts predicts will hit in the near future

Bornholm Coast trail

I’ve walked around Bornholm again and again – Here is the story of why

when I started out hiking many years ago. I kept coming back to one special place: Bornholm, a small rocky island far out in the Baltic Sea. It takes around 4-6 days to walk it and to me it has become my home path. I even have a Master degree in communication from understanding this trail as a story. In this talk I explain how 25 years of walking the same path almost every year, can teach you things in new ways

Technology and Hiking

Wandering through space – hiker with technology all around

Hiking is a bit like space travel – it inspires and sparks innovation on a grand scale. In this talk I outline how hiking can give birth to new technology and also how more and more of us might soon become nomads again, defining home very differently and connecting to reality both offline and online, where-ever we walk

My walk and work

My own story about working with hiking in both digital ways and along the trails

A talk about why and how I work with walking. It is a talk about my personal journey into and along the paths of hiking. The story about how I work to live from hiking. And how one might combine hiking with digital storytelling and with being a nomad. It is also about why walking is more important than talking.

Let me hear from you

I look forward to get out and tell about all the great things walking and hiking can be and do. The talks can both be in English or Danish.
