Up early after watching the fireworks through rain and mist
Started the new year with a long day hike
Text and drawing by Frits Ahlefeldt
Fine mist colored the New Year evening and gave all the fireworks a soft and distant filter. I stood on a wet, slippery bench and watched it, after oysters and champagne.
First of January I woke early, so ready to get out hiking more, started with a 3 hour walk across reforested land, to a hill, that began its life as a heap of torn down buildings from inner city, now with a layer of grass on top, giving a view far around even across the suburbs, on the flat land, and out over the sea.
The hill would be a great place for kids to ski, but this New Year night temperature of the 12.6 Celsius in Denmark, was a new all-time record, and the temperature is nowhere near the low ones, we used to have, and that would make skiing an option.
Took the wooden stairs up to watch the view of the Copenhagen from the top, while New Year resolution joggers, one in short trousers, struggled up and down the hill, between families.
The story and timeline continues in my next post here: First research hike 2023
