Great crested grebe bird
Text and drawing by Frits Ahlefeldt
Known for its mating display dance and those plumes and beautiful colors that ladies used in their hats to a degree in the 19th century so the Great crested grebe almost went extinct in the United Kingdom
Nesting mostly on lakes, in vegetation both adults rear the chicks. The Great grebe is a great diver, and spend around 15-20 sec. on each dive.
The Great crested grebe can be found over most of Europe and Asia. And most head south in the winter, or out to fjords and sea, for milder climate.

Here I am researching bird biodiversity, how the bird species look and how we relate to them, both along the trails and the places we live. – It is part of my work to understand the many lifeforms we share our planet with.
