You’ve aged the castle said

Walking up there one early spring afternoon, the crows circling and wind chilling the whole idea of trying to get into the Royal school of Architecture by painting watercolors here

Hammershus castle Bornholm

Watercolor and text by Frits Ahlefeldt

I sat in the grass and looked up at the huge walls and gigantic boulders, it would get dark soon. I took out my watercolors and pencils. The assignment was clear: “describe a place in images and words”

Many hours later I would realize there were no bus, and walk through the dark along the road, back to my small apartment six hours away.

Would I get into the school of Architecture?

It is more than 30 years ago. The huge ruin hasn’t aged a day…

“You have” , it tells me with a smile
