Roenne – Bornholm

Getting out of the warm ferry and into the largest, still small town of the island, I know most places from back 30 years when I walked around the streets painting watercolors here, for the first time

Roenne Town on Bornholm

Watercolor and text by Frits Ahlefeldt

I was in my twenties, and ended up here by coincidence , in this small, far away, out in the Baltic Sea island. It was back when you had to go to a coin phone to call anybody you knew, to say you were still all right, and they didn’t know. Cause there were no internet, no social media, no mobile phones.

Just the seagulls far up in the air, and the strange box in the street you put coins in, to talk for a minute or so…

I walk through the streets like so many times before, heading out South-East. Past the church, the China grill on the harbor, and the church yard, to get back on the coast trail, that will lead me all around the island, for the next days.
