The birders’ house

Back in the 1990s when I started painting watercolors on Christiansø, this little granite schack was the strict domain of the birders… it was years before the campsite took it over

They were tough, friendly and didn’t really care much about else than birds.

They started out as early as the fishermen on the islands, and in the days they where relaxing on the porch of the small schack. Sleeping inside at night in bunk beds – the bird-people, ringing the migratory birds in the spring and autumn on the small islands of Ertholmene. But as I often was the only other human like creature around at the campsite , through the years, I even think I kind of became friends with the birders
