The strange reality of large roads

While walking I could hear it from a long distance – the highway, I knew there were a footbridge, so I could get over

Crossing over highway while hiking

Text and drawing by Frits Ahlefeldt

Half fascinated, half puzzled I stop for a second on the top of the bridge and watch the steady never ending river of cars and trucks passing by beneath me. Trying to grasp the shear size of the many tons of steel and people passing forth and back every day, as people commute between houses in the suburbs and the industrial areas and office centers of the towns
