What is Citizen Science

Preparing my talk about Citizen science and how we can understand it, both as creating trails and as images, I sketched up a scientist in a boat with just one oar

Citizens and scientist in the same boat

Text and drawing by Frits Ahlefeldt

I walked along the trail, wondering about how I could explain citizen science, from my knowledge, testing different metaphors to use to create a picture of how science, research, and innovation often is more fruitful when working together

Looking at my drawing I wonder, the guy in the boat with one oar is maybe as much a typical any one of us today, having and trying to do most things alone, living alone, driving our individual cars, listening to music, streaming stories on our phones, figuring out everythings… alone
