Expectations comes in many forms – some of them are our own, in our backpack – other expectations are from those around us
Dealing with expectations – yours or others
Text and drawing by Frits Ahlefeldt. Hiking.org
We all set goals and start out in the direction to reach them, but then things often start to get complicated. Our own expectations to what we can accomplish, how far we can walk, how it will feel, and so on… All get mixed up with the expectation others have and gets to us, depending on our relationship to them
Working to understand expectations here – and its kind of complicated.
At least three ways to deal with expectations
So far it seems to me there are at least three ways to deal with expectations along the trail:
One: Walking the tough path with all your own expectations in place on your back…
Two: Dropping out…
Or the third option… Making your load and backpack lighter as you move along the trail and learn more what you need and what is possible.
