Camp space and social places when in a tent – Research sketch

Drawing and text by Frits Ahlefeldt

Most people living in houses experience only a few very separate levels of social space. Most often you are either in private or public space. When compared to the social spaces that can be found in a less separated environment, like in a tent camp, the picture is different. In tents you can hear things from the social interactions both going on outside in the shared places – but also often hear clearly the conversations going on in the tents surrounding yours. A camp is in some ways a much more complex and fine grained social environment where you get many different levels of intimacy, very close to each other

In camp you have many different levels of social spaces and they are more transparent
