Packing hiking gear

Thoughts on how trails and hikers start out – Heading out tomorrow, it’s been a while

Text and illustrations by Frits Ahlefeldt,

With kids time seems to fly and if not planned days on the trails can suddenly become more of an ambition than reality. Tonight I will pack down gear, getting ready for a research hike, looking at the starting point of a hike a few hours train ride away

Starting points on trails, adventures, projects and relationships can feel like nobody really thought about them, even sometimes you don’t know exactly where the trail starts…  Or they can be special, celebrated, thought out carefully and like a celebration – the can start almost magically, like entering a marriage. Walking through a gate or stepping over a line, fine square, river, or cutting a string, to take the first steps out on the new path

The start of the Appalachian trail

The Appalachian trail is one of the trails starting out magically, walking through a fine gate

Curious about how the trail I am researching tomorrow will look – and feel
